The reason I placed this under sports blog is because the WWE labels itself as “Sports Entertainment”, also articles compare the WWE Network to NBA, NFL, NHL, MLB, etc Networks.
Last night, WWE held a press conference to announce about the Launch of the WWE Network, what it will have, the shows, the cost, and most importantly, where it can be obtained. In that report the WWE has stated that it will be found on the internet, available in apps on multiple platforms.
Now one might say that it is not a good choice, but in actuality, it makes sense. The WWE already offers it’s very own app. They do voting and what not via this app. Also, doing it this way, the WWE has COMPLETE control over cost to the consumer, the advertising, as well as loose rules on what it can air. All things that make sense for it. Also, being that it will have old videos as well, including the Attitude Era, we will get to see it in all of it’s glory.
The WWE has stated it will air all PPV’s live on it, as well as old videos, new content, and so on for merely $9.95/month. That is a great deal, especially when the PPV’s come with a price of around $45-$55 for the monthly and about $10 more for Wrestlemania.
Last but not least, everything is going to the internet, EVERYTHING. You can find just about everything to watch on the internet from Netflix, Crackle, YouTube, Funny or Die, Break and so on. Even IGN and UFC have their own channels on Roku. With that said, Premium cable channels (HBO, MAX, SHOTime, Starz) have launched their own apps to supply content over the internet. So don’t be surprised if you see more channels going to the internet.
