Now I get it, the only thing that really sets the games apart year to year is the roster. But why should that be the status quo? Especially when competitors have a better product that is 6 years old. I love the game of Madden, let me rephrase, I like playing an NFL game. Just we are now left with only Madden due to the exclusivity License that EA has on the NFL. Which has been reported that the NFL sought.
Okay, to release a sports game, especially the only one with the license in the market, you will be under the gun to release every year. That comes with the territory. Using one year development as an excuse to a lackluster game, is not an excuse. The games have looked the same year to year for the most part. Little additions here and there, nothing substantial. There is a possibility to have one development team release the game as it has, that way you get the year to year you are so under the gun to do. Then have another development team work on fixing and advancing the product. I know, I know that would cost money, wouldn’t you rather that, than fans petitioning for your exclusivity license to be yanked due to poor product? I guess pick your battles, I suppose.
This is not an exaggeration, Madden 2005 and Madden 25 are very close both visually and gameplay, that is not saying much in 9 years. A lof of other games have made very steep advancements. Do you remember NFL2K5? That game was great, had a great graphics and the gameplay was nice. What happened is for the next installment and then on, EA had the exclusivity license, 2K did not. So they were all alone to make NFL games, which is not something I support. Competition is great for the consumer and markets. When you have teams battling to be the best, they put out their best. How would the NFL be if Tom Brady was the only passer? Very boring right? Same concept. We need a Russell Wilson in to liven everything up.

Remember what I said about everything looking better from a competitor that was 6 years ago? Well competitor can be taken loosely. Since the NFL had the agreement with EA over exclusivity, the content was not NFL. It was however, retired football players. All Pro Football 2K8, the game featured All Stars from the NFL from many eras, and it was awesome. The game had you create a team and draft it, the play, graphics, and AI response are amazing. Watch the Angry Joe worst games of 2013, he mentions this as well.
