To go inline with my recent blog about Call Of Duty: Ghosts, IGN has reported that Assassin's Creed is rumoring 2 games for 2014. In some cases 2 games in one year isn't bad, if there is gap prior; otherwise it seems rushed.
This seems like the latter, Assassin's Creed 3 was released 10/2012 then Assassin’s Creed 4 on 10/2013 and now two for 2014. There is a year between and a little less if two in 2014, not enough time between.
The problem with releasing a game a year or less apart is it is then rushed. Not enough time was put into putting out the best product. I hate to say it but this will cause the game to be sub-par, and they are just flooding the market with this franchise. Much like Activision is doing with one of their franchises, Call of Duty.
You would think Ubisoft would learn by watching, flooding the market will only hinder the product and make it lose it's value. Any game franchise that was released within a year of each other, the value of that franchise dwindles. Madden for example, it is a sports game, released yearly for updated rosters. Madden from 2009 is worth pennies. Though this is a sports game, same rule applied. Yearly installments and flooding of the market, dwindles the value.
I for one would hate to purchase a game for $60 and in a year be worth $10 because the company decided it needed to milk the cow every year for another million dollars. Games lose value in the market and the franchise loses value in my eyes. Spread the game out with a year and a half or two years. Make the buy worth it. I reserved AC4 as a pre order and haven't picked it up yet. Now feeling like I should cancel it. Why pick it up when its value will decrease rapidly now?
Thank you Ubisoft and Activision. Good to know our money isn't worth that much to you.
